The Han shu (100) is the only ancient text to report this “sparkling star”. It says the object appeared in the “western quarter” sometime during the month of -68 January 27 to February 24. It was about 20º from Venus. The location indicates an evening sky observation. Hsi Tsê-Tsung (1958) considered this object to be a nova.
